Workforce Development

“Your message of “self-empowerment” was truly motivating.  As one of the JAG Specialist noted” I have never seen a room full of students so engaged!”  The lives of these youth have been filled with barriers and set-backs, so to hear from your life experiences that those barriers can be overcome was a powerful one.  The youth and everyone at the conference knew that your passion was real.”

Darrell “Coach D” Andrews Workforce Development Programs stem from his close to two decades working with youth in his WIA funded HYPE (Helping Youth Pursue Excellence Program) as well as his Adult Job Readiness Program BASIC (Building and Sustaining Internal Change.)  BASIC was funded under The Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) and had a 75% participant employment retention rate over a to year period.  HYPE (Helping Youth Pursue Excellence) was nationally recognized by the US Department of Labor for its high job retention and dropout prevention rates. HYPE’s Workforce Development success was built on two core philosophies shared by Coach D and his staff:

  1. 1.Kids are not committed to programs, kids are committed to people.

  2. 2.A student with a dream is a student with a future; however, a student with a dream is fueled by a caring adult who believes in their dreams.

If you are in the process of considering a Workforce Development event and are looking for a speaker, trainer or consultant, Coach D brings experience that few speakers possess.  Darrell “Coach D” Andrews conducts programs for youth, program providers, state agencies and private industry councils. He has a hands on perspective that has inspired thousands of Workforce Development Program youth and adults.  He not only provides motivation, he shares real world insights.  This is critically important in a time where every program dollar counts!

Organizations such as the National Association of Workforce Developers (NAWDP), The Association of Job Search Trainers (ASJT) and the Wisconsin Careers Conference (One of the largest in the USA) have all booked Coach D to provide keynote speeches at their annual conferences. Programs such as Michigan Works, Jobs for America’s Graduates and SERCO-Workforce Solutions have all contracted with Coach D to inspire their youth to identify gifts and talents and connect these talents to career and education (A process called Passion Mapping™.) 1.Realize the significance of giving it their best during their part-time and summer job experience.

2.Grasp the importance of a positive attitude in school and the workplace.

3.Comprehend the impact of relationships in their career quest.

4.Identify the most appropriate “Passion Pathway” which is an analytical strategy to finding your life’s purpose.

5.Realize the power of having long and short term goals for academic and career success.

This workshop will be fun, creative and help attendees to take control of their career outcomes.  Research has proven that very few people obtain careers directly related to personal talents and abilities.  Youth who attend this event will gain insights that are rare in today’s job and career quest. Their lives will never be the same!

Four Keys to Effective Leadership

This program is best suited for Workforce Organizations who are looking to train their youth in leadership or are considering developing a youth leadership initiative.  A student leader’s ability to succeed is directly related to their ability to grow as a leader. What are the four skills that every leader must possess to get the commitment and passion of their team? This presentation will reveal the characteristics of outstanding leaders so that your program participants can develop the leading edge. They will learn strategies which will improve their personal leadership effectiveness and unlock their leadership potential. This event will help your program develop leaders who could in turn assist you in achieving your organizational goals.

It Can Be Done!

In order for Youth to excel in a Workforce Development Program, it is imperative to help them develop an “It Can Be Done” mindset. This program will help them answer the questions: What is it that you want to do but think that you can’t? What self-perceived limitations do you have and why do they exist? The way youth see themselves impacts their future.  When a young person can connect the choices they make to the bigger picture, they begin to climb to higher heights. Youth program participants will be inspired to dream big dreams and to look at life’s challenges and say, “It can be done!”

Five Garbage Bags and a Dream

This presentation is based on Coach D’s inspirational signature story of pursuing his dreams. Your program participants will be excited and gain insight on getting prepared for life after high school. In this presentation, he will share how to have the confidence to go to the next level in their life. Students will be equipped to confront fear and other barriers that keep them from moving forward in life. They will be prepared to survive in the real world with the five skills that every high school graduate needs to succeed in the workplace and other post-secondary activities.  This event will also highlight the importance of attending a post secondary institution.

Workforce Development-Adult Speaking and Training Programs

“During our years of workplace as well as welfare-to-work reform, our agency has dealt with many training providers and have fund Darrell Andrews Enterprises to one of our top two providers. This organization communicates well with casework staff and management, keeps excellent records and delivers what they promise.  Coach D and his staff are able to reach, motivate, develop and lead our clients into meaningful employment.  Clients who previously had multiple barriers to employment and self-sufficiency were able to overcome these barriers after as little as four weeks with Darrell Andrews Enterprises. Many of these recipients had been through previous programs without success.”

Seven Strategies of Highly Effective Workforce Development Programs

There are many factors that go into running an effective Workforce Development Program. For close to two decades, Coach D ran an effective WIA Youth Program entitled HYPE (Helping Youth Pursue Excellence) as well as a job readiness adult program entitled BASIC (Building and Sustaining Internal Change.  Darrell Andrews Enterprises was a successful Workforce Development Program due to its organizational philosophies as well as its internal auditing systems. We set our bar higher than the bar that was given to us and as a result, we consistently achieved our contract goals. During this session we will discuss strategies such as:

1. The importance of a “youth first” philosophy to programmatic success.

2. Establishing internal accountability systems for staff and management.

3. Keeping good records and other documentation.

4. The importance of establishing an effective youth council

5. Making parents accountable to student success.

  1. 6. Effective customer service.

  2. 7. Many others!

This workshop will help your organization or agency go to the next level and will totally reshape the paradigms of all key stakeholders.

Making The Connection-Understanding and Motivating Minority Youth

“Kids are not committed to programs, kids are committed to people.” With the challenges faced today relating to cultural sensitivity, organizations need to be creative when developing effective relationships with minority youth.  In order to motivate your teenaged youth of color, Workforce Development Programs must have a system of connectedness and personalization in place.  This motivational program is designed to help Workforce Development Programs go through an introspective process that analyzes roadblocks as well as creates new pathways to teenaged minority youth connectedness and personalization.

Soft Skills Training

Do you find that your program participants can be combative in the workplace from time to time?  Do you find it hard for them to understand the importance of little things such as having a positive attitude on the job, showing up on time, respecting their boss and coworkers? This highly interactive workshop is designed to help your staff understand the importance of soft skills development to inspiring your program participants to succeed in the workplace.  We will use strategies found in our BASIC (Building And Sustaining Internal Change) and HYPE (Helping Youth Pursue Excellence) Programs to help your staff engage your clients in the process of workplace introspection.  They will begin to see themselves in a new light and start the process of perception modification that leads to increased success on the job.
